Haynes vs Batista (70's)
In the nightcap of the doubleheader, the Cavemen opened the scoring with 2 runs in the 3rd. The pesky Eagles came back in the 4th with 2 runs of their own on a 2 out 2 run single from Jimmy Haynes. Mo Vaughn gave the Eagles the lead with an rbi double in the 5th.
Jim Edmonds went deep with a 3 run shot in the bottom of the 5th to make it 5-3 neanderthals. Raffy tacked on a solo shot that sent Haynes to the showers and extended the lead to 6-3. The Cavemen added another run in the 7th on a 2 out rbi double from Placido Polanco, making it 7-3. Meanwhile Chad Zerbe gave the neanderthals some much needed quality innings after replacing Batista in the 6th. Zerbe ran into some hard luck in the 9th. Macias lead off with an infield single and then Zerbe retired Mench and Williams. Soriano singled to keep the Eagles alive. Galarraga then legged out an infield single and Macias came into score, making it 7 -4. At that point skipper Mike Utley had no choice but to pull Zerbe who was 1 out away from a 4 inning save. Sasaki came out of the bullpen to face Nomar Garciaparra, who suddenly represented the game's tying run. Garciapparra grounded out to Polanco and the Cavemen escaped with a 7-4 victory.

Benson vs Padilla (60's, cloudy)
Under cloudy skies the Cavemen took an early lead in the bottom of the 1st. With 2 out and the bases empty, Jim Edmonds reached 1st on an error by Mo Vaughn. Shawn Green doubled him home to make 1-0. The skies opened up in the top of the 3rd and the game was delayed an hour. Finally the rains stopped and the teams returned to the field, without their starting pitchers. While Koplove pitched solidly for 4 innings, Julio Santana didn't fair so well. Santana was torched for 10 hits and 11 runs in 2 2/3 innings.
