Ortiz v. Benson
Some crucial hits in the second inning put the Eagles ahead. Some crucial hits in the third inning put the Pelicans ahead. Some crucial hits in the sixth inning ties the game. Some crucial hits in the ninth inning puts the Pelicans ahead. Game ends that way.

Suppan v. Carpenter
Eagles pitching sucks and gives up three in the first. Eagles pitching sucks and gives up two more in the third. Eagles hitting sucks and plates one in the third. Eagles hitting sucks, but gets two more in the fourth. Eagles hitting sucks and still manages to tie the game in the sixth. Eagles hitting rocks and wins the game in the seventh (on a Mo Vaughn grand salami).

Vazquez v. Lieter
A true pitcher's duel. Both pitchers dominated throughout the game. Only one run was tallied through eight innings and that was a solo spank by Nick Johnson in the bottom half of the fourth inning.
The top of the ninth fell apart for the beleaguered home team. Robin "Pelican for life" Ventura led off with a single. Magruder then got his second single of the night moving Ventura to second. With the Eagles bullpen frantically drawing straws to see who would warm up, pinch hitter, Omar Infante was called out on a third strike for the first out. Vina walked. Time for a change.
The "rock-paper-scissors" loser (there was a heated argument that the straws were rigged), Jay Powell, was handed the ball and told to preserve the 1-0 lead. With bases loaded and one out, a routine doubleplay would end the game and assure an Eagle series victory. But, Powell doesn't like doing things the way they are drawn out. So instead, he gives up a single to Ken Griffey to tie the game. Then gives up another single to Jeter that plates two more. Then, not to be completely unsuccessful, he throws a wild pitch that scores yet another run. The Eagles pen looks on and heckles Powell mercilessly.
Kim closes the door on the Eagles in the bottom half.
The home crowd of 177 fans groan in disappointment and make their way to the exits.
sidebar: a positive from this game Texas Rangers scouts are in the stands and express an interest in Jay Powell.
