Thomson vs Halladay
The Massacre Following a day 5 rainout the Hitmen and Cavemen squared off for game 1 of a doubleheader. Game 1 of the twin bill was over in a hurry. How bad was it ? When Halladay retired fellow pitcher John Thompson on a rbi sac fly it was the 1 and only out he recorded in the game. After a 6 run 1st the Hitmen tacked on 2 more runs in the second. The final was 8-4 Hitmen. After the game manager Toby Harrah was asked about Halladay's performance. "It looked an awful lot like batting practice". Indeed, Halladay may be the highest paid batting practice pitcher in FEBC history.

Roa vs Zito
With the Cavemen facing the possiblity of being swept by the visiting Hitmen, Barry Zito took the mound to try and stop the skid. Top of the 3rd and the game was scoreless. Zito retired Alomar to start the inning and then things really got weird. After walking the bases loaded with 3 straight walks, Zito then walked Gonzalez to bring home the games first run. Before the inning was over the Hitmen had plated 5 runs and Toby Harrah had numerous "discussions" with the home plate umpire before being tossed. Apparently umpires are not interested in phone numbers for the nearest laser eye surgeon. Steve Finley lead off the 5th with a solo homer to make it 6-0, Hitmen. In the bottom of the 5th the Cavemen finally decided to pull out their bats. The neanderthals belted out 6 hits in the inning, including a key 2 run double from Matt Stairs. 5 runs were scored and the lead was cut to 6-5. In the bottom of the 7th Stairs blasted an Urbina fastball deep into the seats to tie the game a! t 6. The score remained the same until Rollins and Polanco hit back to back doubles in the bottom of the 10th to give the Cavemen a thrilling, 7-6 come from behind victory.
